Cool Zones
Salt Lake County's Cool Zones are public buildings where you can temporarily cool off and learn about available services.
Each building's hours, holiday closures, code of conduct, and eligibility restrictions still apply. Salt Lake County Senior Centers are open to everyone over the age of 60. All Salt Lake County youth ages 0-18 have free access to Salt Lake County recreation centers, which is a great way to keep your family cool. Learn more through the My County Rec Pass link below.
Salt Lake County Recreation Centers are open in extreme situations to provide additional places to cool off, especially on Sundays. Extended hours are available on Sunday July, 12 at five Salt Lake County Recreation Centers to help people beat the heat when other facilities are closed. Centers will be designating specific Cool Zones within the facility during normal operating hours for guests to escape the heat without having to purchase full access to the entire recreation center. Not all recreation center amenities will be available during extended Cool Zone hours on Sunday, July 12.
The five recreation centers extending hours on Sunday, July 12, are:
- Northwest Recreation Center - 1255 Clark Avenue (300 N), Salt Lake City
- Sun: 10:30 am – 8:00 pm (Cool Zone only 2:30 – 8:00 pm)
- Taylorsville Recreation Center - 4948 South 2700 West, Taylorsville
- Sun: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm (Cool Zone only 3:00 – 8:00 pm)
- JL Sorenson Recreation Center - 5350 West Herriman Main Street, Herriman
- Sun: 10:00 am – 8:00 pm (Cool Zone only 3:00 – 8:00 pm)
- Dimple Dell Recreation Center - 10670 South 1000 East, Sandy
- Sun: 10:00 am – 8:00 pm (Cool Zone only 3:00 – 8:00 pm)
- SLC Sports Complex - 645 South Guardsman Way, Salt Lake City
- Sun: 10:00 am – 8:00 pm (Cool Zone only 5:00 – 8:00 pm)
Homeless Resource Centers remain open with their normal operating hours and The Weigand Center (437 W 200 S, Salt Lake City) is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is a welcoming place for anyone who needs to get out of the heat.
