Salt Lake County Health Department's TOP Star program, which helps early childhood education centers strengthen health and wellness policies, by funding a dedicated Spanish speaking temporary staff position. Previously, serving Spanish speaking childcare providers meant routing every email, call, and policy review through whichever bilingual staff member happened to be available, turning one step interactions into five or six step relays and pulling in higher grade managers and specialists ad hoc.
The dedicated position is projected to save money through time-saved over the life of the program and cut required staff hours nearly in half. Just as importantly, it builds consistent rapport, trust, and program expertise within the Hispanic and Spanish speaking community, expanding TOP Star's reach to families who were previously harder to serve.
