2024 Regional Solutions: Aging in Place

In the face of rapid demographic changes and an evolving urban landscape, planning for resilient and inclusive communities has never been more critical.

This event took place on October 2nd, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, at the Viridian Event Center in West Jordan for the "2024 Regional Solutions: Aging in Place" event.

This event brought together experts, planners, and community leaders to address pressing issues related to our aging population and to explore innovative strategies that support aging in place.

We engaged in dynamic discussions, expert panels, and presentations aimed at fostering sustainable, livable, and age-friendly communities.

Why Is This So Important?

As we plan our communities for the future, it's essential to understand the significant challenges our they face. Here’s why addressing these issues is crucial:

Demographic Shifts: Salt Lake County is aging rapidly. By 2060, more than 20% of the County’s population will be at retirement age, dramatically impacting the workforce and housing market.
Economic Challenges: Utah median income falls to just under $60,000 in the retirement years, contributing to increased poverty rates and financial instability for older adults.
Housing Concerns: Nearly 6 out of 10 Utah renters aged 65 and older are currently cost-burdened, with most householders spending more than 35% of their income on housing costs.

Understanding these challenges is the first step towards creating resilient and supportive communities for people of all ages.
