Sheldon Stewart
Sheldon is deeply invested in the southwest region of the Salt Lake Valley. As a young boy, he attended Terra Linda Elementary School in West Jordan. In 1981, his family moved from West Jordan to Riverton where he attended Riverton Elementary School, Oquirrh Hills Middle School, and then graduated from Bingham High School. Through the years, he has developed many friendships with people he interacted with at school as a child and as a parent of children in this area. Those friendships extend throughout the county.
In 1995, Sheldon met and married his wife Heather and they have been married for over 26 years. Together they have 3 wonderful children who are all married and they are expecting their first grandchild in June.
Sheldon earned an Associates of Science Degree in Environmental Science, which allowed him to earn and receive his Hazardous Waste Operations certification and Emergency Medical Training. He then pursued an Associates of Science in Business Management, continued on earning a Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Utah, and finished up with an MBA in Global Management. During his career, he has worked in the banking, software, and healthcare industries, and is currently an executive with a bank located in South Jordan. Sheldon's children and their spouses, as well as his parents and extended family, are residents of Bluffdale, Riverton, South Jordan, Herriman, and West Jordan.
Sheldon during his time before the count was a councilmember in Riverton and served as Mayor Pro Tem. Sheldon has served on the Unified Fire Authority and looks forward to continuing in this role representing the county. Previously, Sheldon was the Chairman of the Board of South Valley Services, a local non-profit entity that helps victims of domestic violence. Sheldon also served as the chair for the UFA during the transition of the fire chief, bringing transparency to the organization by working directly with the State Auditor, the new fire chief at the time, and members of the finance committee to clear concerns found in the state audit regarding the UFA.
Sheldon is very service oriented and has spent many of his summer vacations cycling, hiking, and navigating the rivers and lakes of Utah with the youth of this southwest area. Sheldon was raised with a service-oriented focus in his life and enjoys meeting and working with people towards a common goal. As a resident and councilmember, Sheldon has witnessed massive growth in the southwest region of Salt Lake County, and with this focus on service to the community has been a responsive and trusted member of our community, understanding the unique challenges and needs of this area. Sheldon is humbled by the trust the residents of southwest region have placed in him in this new capacity on the county council and looks forward to bring a strong voice that represents the interest of this region. In conjunction with his Senior Policy Advisor Kim Coleman they are eager to work towards building strategic initiatives that will benefit the residents of Salt Lake County.
